As an addition to the industry-leading ULTEM UTF120 thin film product family, the introduction of 7-micron and 10-micron film thickness grades responds to market demand for films that meet different capacitor voltage standards, while providing more possibilities for innovative designs. SABIC's ULTEM UTF120 film technology has great advantages in capacitor applications, including high dielectric constant, high insulation resistance, and low dielectric loss. Two new film thickness grades address the need for higher film thickness and higher charge storage capacity in high voltage applications. The new grade of ULTEM UTF120 film released on the market belongs to a product portfolio that SABIC continues to expand, including the 5-micron ULTEM UTF120 film product launched last year. Currently, SABIC is the only material supplier that can provide such a choice of thickness for PEI extruded films.

SABIC's 7-micron and 10-micron ULTEM UTF120 capacitor thin film products make thin-film capacitors lightweight, compact, and high-energy-density designs possible, and they can store large amounts of electrical energy for reliable operation for a long time, even in high-temperature environments. In the temperature range of -40 ° C to 150 ° C, compared with traditional capacitor film materials such as polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), ULTEM UTF120 film has unparalleled resistance Low / high temperature performance. Therefore, SABIC film products can be used in harsh working environments such as electric vehicle DC / DC converters and electric compressors. Because the ULTEM UTF120 film is suitable for high-temperature working environments, it can reduce or even completely solve the need for active cooling of capacitors used in the main converter through the secondary power supply. For example, PP and PET film capacitors usually require a cooling cycle system for cooling operations, and this film product can minimize the need for cooling cycle systems. In traditional products, the use of a cooling cycle system takes up a lot of space under the bonnet, and it limits the design flexibility.
Capacitors using ULTEM UTF120 film can be used in reflow soldering processes up to 260 ° C (the industry standard operating temperature). In addition, SABIC film products can also provide excellent metallization, capacitor winding and leveling (pressing) operations. This product can be processed on existing equipment, and its operational feasibility has been verified in thin film / foil and metal electrode applications, covering a variety of metal electrode design options such as flat, tapered and patterned.
