SABIC launches LEXAN™ ISCC certified polycarbonate film and sheet

SABIC's specialty film sheet business unit plant in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands, has been certified by the international ISCC PLUS program and has launched a series of certified new LEXAN™ renewable film and sheet products. The new products are combined with the company's current TRUCIRCLE™ innovative solutions to actively respond to the global growing demand for further sustainable material solutions in the growing plastic circular economy.

"We are very honored to be the industry's first manufacturer of LEXAN renewable polycarbonate films and sheets to obtain ISCC PLUS certification," said Bart Kiekens, head of the European E&E film division of SABIC Europe's Bergen op Zoom special film sheet: "This is for us Of LEXAN film and sheet customers provide effective alternatives to achieve ambitious sustainable development goals."

The ISCC PLUS certified mass balance calculation system clearly and simply stipulates a series of complex processes in the supply chain from tracking the production of raw materials to the final product. According to this regulation, it is determined whether a certain product is renewable or recycled. . For SABIC, this means that by putting one ton of renewable or recycled raw materials into the production process and replacing fossil raw materials, about one ton of materials that can be classified as renewable or recycled can be produced. In addition, the mass balance method can also enable original equipment manufacturers to record and quantify the sustainability of the application of such certified materials.

In addition, SABIC also conducted a life cycle analysis (LCA), according to the PAS 2050 bio-carbon accounting method, to evaluate the environmental performance of the renewable material path and the traditional fossil material path from production to delivery and from production to end of life. . The results show that each kilogram of certified SABIC renewable polycarbonate material can reduce fossil consumption by up to 35% and application carbon footprint by up to 60%. Overall, this has also contributed significantly to SABIC's efforts to reduce the impact of its products on climate change.

"The polycarbonate used in the new bio-based LEXAN film and sheet products is partly derived from second-generation raw materials, which have no direct competition with the food chain," added Alda Shabanaj, SABIC's European film and sheet product manager: "This The materials produced can help our customers choose durable and recyclable cross-industry application solutions to create value. This is what we call the "Chemical Achievement™" philosophy.

SABIC’s innovative LEXAN polycarbonate film and sheet products come from the Bergen op Zoom production base in the Netherlands. Based on certified renewable raw materials, they have been widely recognized by the global market and have realized the construction of buildings, electronic appliances, automotive industry, large-scale transportation and High-end applications in multiple markets such as special glass.
