SABIC launches LNP ELCRIN iQ modified plastic

On July 2, 2019, the internationally renowned petrochemical company SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) held a media communication meeting in Guangzhou. In order to reduce plastic waste, the company introduced LNP ELCRIN iQ to upgrade recycled modified plastics.

LNP ELCRIN iQ modifier reduces environmental impact

It is understood that this series of products are processed and recycled from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) to support a circular economy and reduce plastic waste. SABIC uses chemical depolymerization to convert used PET (mainly disposable beverage bottles) into higher-performance and more durable high-value PBT materials to promote the use of recycled resin. In addition, according to the calculation of the cumulative energy consumption value (CED) and global warming potential (GWP), compared with the original PBT resin, the material also reduces the product's impact on the environment from production to consumption.

Has good chemical resistance, coloring and high fluidity

SABIC's LNP ELCRIN iQ modified material has good chemical resistance, coloring and high fluidity, which helps to speed up the production cycle and improve flame retardancy (FR). This material is processed from iQ PBT resin, which is upgraded and regenerated. This technology overcomes many of the limitations of physical recycling by chemically depolymerizing PET bottles and other PET waste into their precursor chemicals and purifying them to make new PBT resins.

Can replace native PBT and other traditional PBT materials

LNP ELCRIN iQ resin is a direct solution to replace native PBT and other traditional PBT materials, which can better improve the sustainability of the product. In the evaluation, LNP ELCRIN iQ resin has been proven to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint by up to 61, respectively. % And 49%.

The mineral water bottles we usually buy are bottles made of PET materials. These plastics are almost discarded after one-time use. SABIC's technology is based on PET waste water bottles collected, cleaned and broken (physical recycling). Next, chemical upgrading and synthesis were carried out, and the polymer was polymerized again into PBT polymer. Finally, a sustainable development LNP iQ resin or alloy was developed. This resin and alloy can be applied to many markets and applications, including automotive, consumer electronics, and pharmaceutical industries.
