Samsung and LG’s lithium battery separator suppliers: w-scope invests more than 600 million to expand wet process diaphragm production line

w-scope will expand its wet membrane production line in the 19,847 square meter Chungju Metropolitan Industrial Park. According to w-scope, the company expects to invest 30 to 40 billion won (180 million to 230 million yuan) and 80 billion won (470 million yuan) to provide LG Chem and Samsung SDI production lines.

w-scope said that the company is the sole supplier of Samsung SDI's new electric vehicle lithium battery separators, and the company said it plans to further increase its investment in lithium battery separator capacity in the first half of next year.

At present, w-scope lithium battery separators are bare films without coatings. The coating is applied by LG Chem and Samsung SDI using their own technology. In order to meet the customer's requirements and conditions for lithium battery separators, the company plans to build another coating factory.

It is understood that the lithium battery separators required by Samsung SDI are mainly supplied by Japanese companies such as Asahi Kasei, Toray and Ube Industries. LG Chem seems to be pursuing lithium battery separators with Shanghai Enjie in order to diversify its procurement channels.

W-scope said that their goal is to develop inexpensive lithium battery separators while ensuring stability. It is understood that the company's current bare film price is less than $ 1 per square meter, while the price of ceramic coating is only about $ 1 per square meter.

According to industry insiders, as battery manufacturers are under increasing pressure to reduce costs, the price of lithium battery separators has become very important. If battery manufacturers want to control costs, they must purchase cheap and stable coating technologies Lithium battery separator.
