Schaeffler launches new solution for gearboxes: new angular contact roller bearings with low friction

This new angular contact roller bearing developed by Schaeffler can help increase the power and system efficiency of electric vehicles.

In the automotive transmission system, the gearbox determines the power and energy efficiency of the entire vehicle. Right now, improving transmission efficiency has become the goal pursued by OEMs, and reducing friction in the transmission is the main means to achieve this goal. For this application, Schaeffler has introduced a new type of angular contact roller bearing with low friction.

"Angular contact roller bearings developed by Schaeffler have the characteristics of high load and low friction"

Schaeffler predicted that by 2030, 30% of passenger car production will be pure internal combustion engine vehicles, and 40% will be hybrid vehicles, of which internal combustion engines and transmissions will still be key system components, and the remaining 30% will be pure electric vehicles. . In other words, even after more than ten years, passenger cars using traditional internal combustion engines will still account for 70% of total car output.

Based on this, this new type of angular contact roller bearing developed by Schaeffler can be used in the transmissions of traditional powertrains and hybrid powertrains as well as in electric drive axle reduction gearboxes, helping to improve the power and system of electric vehicles. effectiveness.

In current gearboxes, the transmission shaft mainly uses tapered roller bearings as support bearings, which are installed in pairs at both ends of the transmission shaft. In this arrangement, in order to prevent the left and right movement of the transmission shaft, a certain preload force needs to be added to the tapered roller bearing. Although it can play a positioning role, it also increases the friction of the system. At present, many automobile manufacturers have begun to use locating bearings and non-locating bearings to reduce or even eliminate axial forces on locating bearings and reduce system friction losses.

Obviously, how to improve the efficiency of the gearbox system is a concern of the OEM and even the user. In order to maintain the low friction, the angular contact roller bearing introduced by Schaeffler can maintain the bearing capacity of the bearing without changing the design space higher. The most intuitive simulation results show that in the same design space, the bearing capacity of this angular contact roller bearing can be increased by 40%, further improving the efficiency of traditional power systems.
