SCHOTT, a technology company in the field of specialty glass, materials and advanced technology, announced this week that its latest "Schott RealView 1.9 Lightweight Glass Wafer" has a weight reduction of 20% compared to the previous one, and at the same time an increase of nearly 10 degrees compared to the FoV of 1.8 refractive index products. It helps to reduce the overall weight of AR glasses by about 7%.
Schott also said that while reducing weight and increasing FoV, it can also ensure image quality and durability. The products have been exhibited at the 2021 Optical Expo not long ago.
Specifically, SCHOTT RealView 1.9 light-weight glass wafers are 5g lighter than before, which is 20%, and it is inferred that the weight of the 1.9-index wafer is about 20g. Schott said: This progress is mainly due to the reduction of material density.
Schott said that the 5g weight change is a major advancement and will also help push consumer-grade AR glasses towards the 70g mark.
At the same time, EVG Group, a supplier of nano-imprint equipment, also stated that SCHOTT RealView 1.9 light-weight glass and new resins are perfectly compatible with its nano-imprint mass production equipment.
