Scion Aviation has applied DUNA-USA’s BLACK CORINTHO 800 high temperature tool board to helicopter parts

DUNA-USA's BLACK CORINTHO 800 is a high-temperature tool board designed for use at temperatures up to 400 ° F, with low CTE, high dimensional stability, and high thermal conductivity.

Scion Aviation (Fort Collins, Colorado, USA) announced that it has completed prototype tools for the external fuel tanks of the upcoming SH-410 and SH-415 Vixen manned / optional manned helicopter systems using DUNA-USA (Baytown, Texas, USA) The most advanced new mold: BLACK CORINTHO 800.

BLACK CORINTHO 800 is a high temperature tool board designed for use at temperatures up to 400 ° F, with low CTE, high dimensional stability, and high thermal conductivity. It is designed for the production of prototypes or small batch tools and is part of the high temperature tool system developed by the DUNA Group. The system consists of black CORINTHO series die plates, DUNAPOX black AD 135 high temperature epoxy adhesive and DUNAPOX black sea 125 high temperature epoxy sealer. composition.

To prepare for the upcoming flight test, Scion needed to make an external carbon fuel tank for the Vixen helicopter family, and maintaining accuracy was key. BLACK CORINTHO 800 is used for direct tool applications. Once the board is bonded, CNC processed and sealed, the Hexcel M35-4 epoxy prepreg is laid on the tool and cured in an autoclave at 50 PSI for 16 hours / 180 ° F .

Scion Aviation owner Jim Sampson said, "For many years, it was almost impossible to make low-cost, high-precision prototypes with the available tool options. For this type of application, metal tools are heavy and expensive, and 90% The service life is too long. The natural solution is a mold plate, but traditionally, the coefficient of thermal expansion has proven to be infeasible for maintaining the necessary tolerances for high-precision prototypes. For Scion, BLACK CORINTHO 800 is very suitable in this regard, Because it is very stable, has an ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient, and significantly speeds up our process, which saves time and money. It has really changed our working methods and made us more competitive in the quotation process. "

The Vixen helicopter series includes unmanned / optional manned transmissions, and is currently being flight tested by Scion Aviation in cooperation with Safran, and eventually used as offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and other applications for the US Navy, Army, and civilian appliances . The program has been implemented since 2011 and will be fully produced in 2019. It will be flight tested by Scion Aviation's Fort Collins, CO, US and Cheyenne, WY, US.
