Showa Denko’s 8-inch SiC epitaxial wafers have been delivered

Showa Denko, a major Japanese semiconductor material manufacturer, recently announced that its 8-inch SiC epitaxial wafers for silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors have begun sample shipments.

Showa Denko said that compared with the original power semiconductors using silicon wafers, SiC power semiconductors have less power loss and are less likely to generate heat, and the demand from the fields of electric vehicles and renewable energy has increased sharply.

According to Yole data, the global silicon carbide power device market size is expected to grow from US$1.090 billion to US$6.297 billion in 2021-2027, of which the automotive-grade market space is expected to increase from US$685 million to US$4.986 billion.
