On January 27, Sigmatex announced the launch of new recycled carbon fiber non-woven products.
To mitigate the environmental impact of composite material production, Sigmatex has developed a simple and feasible recycling process that can be applied not only to itself but also to customers. Sigmatex predicts that by 2025, the new process will reduce the industry's carbon fiber waste by 500 tons per year.
The non-woven fabric launched this time will be made of high-quality recycled carbon fiber with a sizing layer intact, with a grammage between 100gsm-600gsm, and the fiber-resin connection performance has also been improved. It will be an isotropic material with outstanding mechanical properties, compactable and suitable for the production process of prepregs.
Paul McMullan, commercial director of Sigmatex, said: "One of the most important considerations when using recycled carbon fiber as a raw material is to calculate the energy consumed by its recycling process. The process we developed this time is the same as the chemical recycling method and the pyrolysis recycling method It is different. The energy it consumes is extremely limited, only 10% -20% of the latter, making Sigmatex's recycled carbon fiber nonwoven fabric the most environmentally friendly of its kind. "
