SKCKolon PI plans to transform some polyimide PI production lines into COF special production lines

On September 8, according to the person in charge of SKCKolonPI, SKCKolonPI will transform part of the existing polyimide (PI) production line into a COF special production line.

The person in charge said: "The COF project is currently undergoing commercial testing. We hope to complete the certification work and start mass production in the near future so that it can be fully sold next year."

So far, the Korean COF market has been dominated by Japanese manufacturers. Due to the impact of Japan's export restrictions on South Korea, South Korean display companies have begun to promote the localization of materials. Therefore, SKCKolonPI has attracted much attention as a local alternative company.

According to relevant investors, "The size of the domestic COF market in Korea alone is about 80 billion won. Due to the localization of raw materials, SKCKolonPI may enter the COF market."

It is reported that SKCKolonPI started research and development of COF in 2006, but due to demand and price problems, the development work could not continue. However, recently, with the growth of the LCD and OLED markets, the demand for COF has increased dramatically, so SKCKolonPI has restarted development work and tested for commercialization of COF.

A person in charge of SKC Kolon PI said: "As the issue of export restrictions in Japan has surfaced, some people have suggested that major Korean companies should test as soon as possible and apply it from next year. Compared to general industrial films or flexible printed circuit film "We need a higher level of management in terms of dust-free management and physical property management, so we plan to reduce existing defects and stabilize supply by changing the existing production line to a COF-only production line."
