Solvay Introduces a New Generation of Low Temperature Epoxy Carbon Fiber Prepreg

The carbon fiber epoxy resin prepreg has set a new standard in terms of cost-effective composite mold with fast laying, rapid initial curing and short post curing cycle.

Solvay introduced LTM 350, a new generation of carbon fiber epoxy prepreg mold material, which aims to save a lot of time and cost for the industrial, aerospace, automotive and racing markets.

According to the company, the carbon fiber epoxy resin mold material provides a fast and low temperature curing cycle (3 hours at 60 ° C), and can also be cured at a temperature as low as 45 ° C and extend the post curing time. Tools manufactured by LTM 350 can also be continuously cycled at temperatures up to 150 ° C to produce high-precision composite parts.

Solvay said that LTM 350 demonstrated its continued commitment to helping OEMs, subcontractors and tool manufacturers in the composite industry achieve ambitious productivity goals.

As a low temperature prepreg with user-friendly viscosity, drapability and processability, LTM 350 aims to achieve the shortest possible layup time while providing high-quality surface finish, setting a new standard for cost-effective composite molds.

This mold prepreg is carefully designed to support the construction of small complex tools and large composite tools. It is intended for autoclave applications, but can also be used outside the autoclave (OOA).

LTM 350 can be used for the optimized format of surface layer and bulk layer. Using 1-5-1 lamination (ratio of surface to bulk layer), it is reported that it can save time and cost compared with the more traditional 1-8-1 format.
