Solvay long glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic material Xencor LFT material meets the innovative needs of medical device structural components

Solvay Xencor LFT composite materials provide high strength and better impact resistance for structural components. This long glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastic material (LFT) has opened new opportunities for medical device designers and OEMs to replace metals and traditional short fiber-reinforced plastics in structural components. Typical applications for this material include components that require high mechanical properties and high load-bearing chassis and gear parts. Solvay will showcase this new material at the MD & M West 2020 exhibition. Welcome to Solvay booth # 2414.

The long glass fiber reinforced Xencor LFT material produced by Solvay through the pultrusion process can maintain stable high performance, and can maintain better mechanical properties at high temperatures, while having low warpage, excellent fatigue resistance and excellent Surface finish. Depending on the polymer and grade, Xencor LFT materials can be reinforced by adding 30% to 60% long fibers.

Compared to metals, Xencor LFT composites perform better in terms of weight reduction, design freedom, chemical resistance, and processing efficiency. Recently, these advantages have been verified on Stavjelo's first newly developed all-polymer electric bicycle, and some of these special technologies can be applied to medical equipment.

"Xencor LFT materials provide more possibilities for plastic alternative metal solutions for medical devices," said Jeff Hrivnak, Global Business Manager, Solvay Specialty Polymers Global Business Unit, Healthcare Market: "Like our other products, Xencor LFT composite materials can also withstand the corrosive disinfectants commonly used in the healthcare industry, and by using a high-speed injection molding process, the overall manufacturing cost can be reduced. "

The Xencor LFT product portfolio is based on Solvay's specific semi-crystalline resin materials, including: Ryton PPS (polyphenylene sulfide), Amodel PPA (polyphthalamide) and Ixef PARA (aromatic polyamide).
