STMicroelectronics Introduces High-Efficiency Super-Junction MOSFETs Targeting Energy-Saving Power Conversion Topologies

On December 14, 2018, STMicroelectronics introduced the MDmesh ™ series of 600V super-junction transistors, which are designed to improve the energy efficiency of mid-power resonant soft-switching and hard-switching converter topologies.

 

The threshold voltage optimized for soft switching technology makes the new transistor ideal for LLC resonant converters and boost PFC converters in energy-saving applications. The capacitor voltage curve helps to improve energy efficiency at light loads. The minimum gate charge (Qg) of 16 nC enables high switching frequency. These two advantages make MDmesh M6 devices also perform well in hard switching topologies.

 

In addition, ST ’s most advanced M6 superjunction technology reduces RDS (ON) resistance to 0.036%, which helps battery chargers, power adapters, PC power supplies, LED lighting drivers, telecommunications equipment and server power supplies, and solar micro-inverters Transformers and other equipment further improve energy efficiency and power density.

 

Packaging options include new leadless TO-LL packages that save space and high thermal efficiency, as well as popular through-hole packages and surface mount packages, including DPAK, D2PAK, TO-220, TO-247, and PowerFLAT. The TO-LL power package registered by JEDEC is 30% smaller in area and 50% thinner than the existing 7-pin D 2 PAK package, which can realize a compact power converter with more space. TO-LL’s low parasitic inductance also helps minimize electromagnetic interference.

 

The MDmesh M6 series is part of the STPOWER ™ portfolio and includes 37 products covering a current range from 13A to 72A. MDmesh M6 is now in production.
