Successful application of the world’s first super 18Cr corrosion-resistant alloy stainless steel continuous pipe Hay:A02SXYG

On July 3, 2022, the world's first super 18Cr corrosion-resistant stainless steel coiled tubing developed and manufactured by SXYG Petroleum Steel Pipe Technology Group Co., Ltd. was successfully applied in the national demonstration area of CCUS-EOR project (carbon dioxide capture, utilization, burial and oil recovery) in Jilin Oilfield, and its performance met the requirements of CCUS injection-production string operation, which was highly praised by users. This is another major achievement in independent innovation of domestic coiled tubing.

CCUS-EOR is to inject the collected CO2 into the oil layer, make the CO2 dissolve with the crude oil, make the crude oil volume expand, viscosity decrease, interfacial tension decrease, and mobility increase, thus achieving the purpose of improving the oil recovery.

This method can also make a large amount of industrial CO2 buried underground and play a role in reducing greenhouse gases. For a long time, conventional tubing has been used as the CO2 injection string in the oilfield. Its poor CO2 corrosion resistance, multiple joints, and thread leakage have become the "pain point" that restricts the efficient operation of the CCUS-EOR project. Oilfield users urgently need a new type of tubing, which can resist CO2 corrosion and does not contain threaded joints, in order to significantly improve the operation efficiency and achieve safe and reliable long-term service.

In response to user demands, SXYG, relying on the technical advantages of the national oil and gas pipe engineering technology research center, combined with China's first-class metallurgical enterprises, scientific research institutes and oil field users, creatively put forward a new CO2 corrosion resistant continuous pipe solution.

After more than two years of technical development, a super 18Cr continuous pipe with excellent CO2 corrosion resistance and mechanical properties and good economy has been designed;


We have conquered a series of key manufacturing technologies such as continuous and stable forming, welding, heat treatment, organization control, and successfully developed the world's first super 18Cr stainless steel continuous pipe.


The R&D team also actively relied on the major special projects of CNPC, actively participated in the selection scheme of CCUS-EOR injection string in the oilfield, and carried out a series of test evaluation in combination with the working conditions, and finally became a classic example of the immediate batch application of the successful pilot application of the product. At present, the product has received more than 2740 tons of orders.

"Compared with ordinary carbon steel tubing, the CO2 corrosion resistance of super 18Cr corrosion-resistant stainless steel coiled tubing is several times higher. The maximum length of a coil of tubing string can reach more than 8000 meters. Without threaded joints, it has high toughness and strength. It is fast and efficient in downhole operation, and the tubing string is safe and reliable in long-term service.


SXYG has conquered a series of key core technologies in recent years, and has built the only and industry-leading experimental research and development platform for corrosion-resistant alloy pipes used in highly corrosive environments in China in 2020.

In the same year, the company's R&D platform tackled the key technology of 2205 duplex stainless steel continuous pipe manufacturing of corrosion-resistant alloy corrosion-resistant pipes, and customized and developed the first corrosion-resistant alloy continuous pipe with a length of 4000 meters, an outer diameter of 31.8 mm, and a wall thickness of 3 mm in China for Changqing Oilfield.
