Sumitomo Chemical said recently that the world`s first liquid-crystal coated polarizer was obtained as a circular polarizer for folding OLED smartphones. Since the liquid crystal-coated polarizer does not easily absorb water and does not require a polarizer protective film, it can be significantly thinner than conventional polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polarizers.

For a circular polarizer composed of a liquid crystal coated polarizer and a liquid crystal coated retardation plate added to the base film, the film thickness can be controlled at 20 to 29 μm. 1 in 3 If the base film is omitted and directly applied to the window film (Window Film), the film thickness is expected to be reduced to one digit.

In addition, another advantage of the liquid crystal coated polarizer is that the absorption wavelength can be controlled. Sumitomo Chemical also said that the liquid crystal coated polarizer can also not completely prevent reflection, and deliberately leave a little red or blue light. Due to the different races, the pigments of the eyes of Melanin are also different, and the colors seen are also different. In order to cope with these small differences, the liquid crystal coated polarizer can be color-designed according to different regions to realize customized smartphone manufacturing.
