Swiss polyurethane foam expert FoamPartner develops new foam for automotive roof

FoamPartner, a Swiss polyurethane foam expert, has developed an extremely low-emission foaming product line for automotive roofs that require processability and design.

The new OBoSky® series foams are based on a patented ether prepolymer technology that combines the advantages of ester-based polyurethane foam with ether-based materials.

The new product has hydrolysis resistance, low emissions and low odor characteristics, and has excellent processability and an extremely uniform foam cell structure.

This technology is specifically targeted at the demanding roof hood masks. At the same time, given its high elongation properties and good resilience, OBoSky® foam is also very suitable for other automotive interior applications that require a comfortable and soft touch.

Klaus Hellmold, Vice President of FoamPartner ’s Automotive Rolls Global Business Unit, said: "In today's era, in addition to looking for environmentally-friendly drive systems, consumers are also beginning to pursue environmentally-friendly and stylish interior materials to ensure clean and healthy air in the cabin . Our OBoSky® automotive canopy foam sets new standards in efficient processing and environmental protection. "

The new OBoSky® canopy foam material has a very uniform structure with fine pores. It also has a surface that is easy to sinter and laminate, and also helps reduce the weight of the surface material.

Compared to pure ester-based foams, materials using ether-based prepolymer technology can not only achieve superior hydrolysis resistance and long-lasting high mechanical properties, but also significantly reduce volatile organic compounds (VOC) and fogging (FOG) )s level.

In the VOC and FOG tests performed according to the VDA 278 and VDA 270 quality standards, the displayed value of OBoSky® is significantly lower than the limit specified in DBL 5450, which is Daimler AG's strict supply regulations for flexible polyurethane foam.

The unique manufacturing process enables the foam length to reach 120 m. Compared with the ordinary 60 m foam, the bonding length can be reduced by 50%, which means that customers can save the cost of finished product construction.
