Display driver chips are chips that instruct the display to accurately display the input image. They are a small but critical component of the display pipeline in the GPU. Only by matching the characteristics of the display itself can the maximum display performance be achieved.

Synaptics recently announced the ClearView R63455 chip. The company claims that it is optimized for head-mounted device applications, including dual displays supporting up to 2160 * 2400 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Synaptics also said that the chip contains a "concave transmission" feature, a foveated rendering solution that supports eye tracking, and can provide users with the highest quality image of the gaze center.

Synaptics also said that they are currently offering new VR-specific chips to potential customers.
