Teijin and Safran sign a long-term supply agreement for high-performance composite materials to continue to make efforts in the aerospace sector

October 27, 020, Tokyo, Japan-Teijin Group today announced that Teijin and Safran have signed a long-term master agreement, Safran is an international high-tech group and a tier one supplier market for aerospace and defense systems and equipment.

Teijin signed a long-term procurement contract for composite materials with Safran

Teijin has provided high-performance materials to Safran for the past 25 years. The contract laid the foundation for Teijin's supply framework for high-performance materials used in the manufacture of new generation aircraft equipment parts.

Teijin and Safran intend to strengthen cooperation to meet the challenges of the aviation market and develop advanced technologies that can reduce production costs and environmental impact. Teijin may provide Safran with various high-performance materials to manufacture various Safran products for commercial, defense industry or space applications.

Some of the first materials provided to the Safran Group should be manufactured by Renegade Materials Corporation headquartered in the United States, which is a prepreg supplier that specializes in providing high-temperature resins and safe, non-toxic polyimide prepregs—— Teijin acquired the company in 2019.

Thierry Viguier, Vice President of Material Purchasing of Safran Group, said: “The signing of this general agreement strengthens the growing relationship between Safran and Teijin. Due to Teijin’s high innovation capabilities, Safran is expected to compete in aerospace equipment performance and competition. Take a new step forward with performance materials."

Shukei Inui, General Manager of Teijin Carbon Fiber Business Unit, said: "The agreement with Safran is a milestone in our long-term trust relationship. It will strengthen Teijin’s position as a reliable material supplier for the aircraft industry. We will provide innovative products and solutions. Solutions to meet the industry’s needs for machinable, cost-effective and sustainable lightweight materials."

As a strategic focus of the group's mid-term management plan for 2020-2022, Teijin is advancing the development of mid- and downstream applications for aircraft, with the goal of achieving annual sales in this area to exceed US$900 million by 2030.
