Teijin Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) announced that it has signed a joint development agreement with Australian joint venture AEV Robotics (AEV, Australia, Victoria) to create lightweight components and solutions for the next generation of vehicles.

These components will use Teijin's advanced materials such as polycarbonate resins, carbon fibers and aramid fibers, as well as composite technologies owned by Teijin and its group companies, including Continental Structural Plastics (Auburn Hills, MI, USA) for innovation Structural design. Teijin will also provide professional thermal management technology to optimize weight reduction and insulation as well as sound absorption. Teijin will also apply its development expertise to support Kogakuin University's solar team in participating in the world's largest solar car competition.

AEV's modular vehicle system will serve as the basis for the de facto standard for next-generation vehicles, meeting the “zero-emissions” goal established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI, Tokyo, Japan). AEV has also developed electric vehicle platforms and autonomous driving systems, and has realized low-speed electric vehicles (LS-EV), which are used in various fields such as medical, logistics, and industrial and traditional transportation.

Teijin will showcase AEV's modular vehicle systems at the Nagoya Automotive Engineering Expo 2019 in Nagoya, Japan from July 17th to 19th.
