Tesla has doubled the key components of its electric vehicle thermal management system: cooling pipeline capacity has almost doubled, and Chinese high-end cooling pipeline manufacturers have new opportunities in electric vehicle thermal management systems

On March 10, Tesla announced plans to increase production lines to produce more battery packs, motors and motor controllers. At the same time, Tesla hopes to nearly double the annual production capacity of its cooling pipes (a key part of the automotive thermal management system) from 150,000 to 260,000. The planned production line will not include battery production, but battery production will be outsourced at the factory.

Affected by this news, Tesla once rose nearly 9% during the pre-US trading session.

The cooling pipeline that hopes to increase production capacity is a key part of Tesla's production line. Because battery systems have high temperature requirements, battery management systems are a top priority. The battery thermal management system can be divided into air-cooled, liquid-cooled, and phase-change material (PCM) cooling according to the cooling medium. At present, natural cooling is mostly used in new energy vehicles, accounting for 53%. Due to the stability of lithium iron phosphate batteries, air cooling is mostly used.

With the further expansion of battery capacity and mid-to-high-end models, liquid cooling will be promoted as the most important cooling method, and ternary batteries are mostly liquid cooled. Phase change material is a cooling method with great development potential in the future, but it is still in the technology research and development stage. With the increase in the production capacity of Tesla's thermal management system, the domestic substitution process for domestic enterprises has accelerated.
