A 60 MW Gannawarra solar farm in Victoria, Australia builds a Tesla power unit battery. It is said that this is the first battery energy storage system to be retrofitted to an existing solar farm in the country, which has been completed ahead of schedule.
Wircon Energy ’s Australian subsidiaries Wirsol Energy and Edify Energy announced a collaboration to jointly develop a 25MW / 50MWh retrofit Gannnawarra energy storage system (GESS) developed by Edify.
According to Wirsol's release, the project must overcome unique regulatory and technical challenges, but it now demonstrates a huge opportunity to integrate large-scale battery energy storage with solar projects.
Wirsol has commissioned a 60MW Gannawarra solar farm and connected a 110MW Wemen solar farm to the Victorian grid. The two photovoltaic projects will power approximately 52,100 Victorian homes in a year.
RCR Tomlinson, the EPC contractor responsible for the construction of the Wemen solar farm, will continue the commissioning with the goal of completing it by the end of the year. Wemen proejct has approximately 319,000 modules installed, making it one of Victoria's largest photovoltaic projects.
