In June 2017, China's first precision ESP roll production line developed by JSGC for three years was put into production. After the first phase of the ESP high-quality roll project was put into production, JSGC did not stop its innovation. As the market demand for high-speed steel products at home and abroad is booming, the material of the rolls used in the ESP rolling line of supporting steel companies also needs to be upgraded. Because the traditional high nickel-chromium infinitely hardened rolls have little room for improvement in online service time and wear resistance, it has severely restricted the improvement of steel enterprises' production capacity and product quality. In the final stage of finishing rolling, high-speed steel rolls were used to replace the original high-nickel-chromium infinite chilled rolls. At that time, there was still a blank in China's roll industry. "Customers' needs are our driving force for development."
At the beginning of 2019, JSGC established the second phase of the high-end precision ESP roll project team, requiring the R&D team to start with the research and development of the high-speed steel roll of the finishing rolling stage.
Compared with rolls made of high nickel-chromium infinitely hardened materials, the production of high-speed steel rolls requires not only adjusting the alloy composition ratio, but also improving the production process and key equipment.
Over the years, JSGC has maintained close cooperative relations with the United Electric Steel Roll Company, the British David Roll Company, Tsinghua University, Beijing Iron and Steel Research Institute and other well-known domestic and foreign steel companies, roll peers and scientific research institutes.
In October 2019, the preliminary high-speed steel rolls of rough rolling and finishing rolling were successfully trial-produced.
