The International Symposium on Application Technology of Special Alloys for China’s Oil and Gas Development Officially Launched

In order to promote the development of special alloy application technology for oil and natural gas development and improve the supply level of special alloys in the steel industry in the field of energy exploration and exploitation, on October 30, it was researched by China Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Institute, International Nickel Association, PGJT Metallurgical Technology Group Group The "International Seminar on Application Technology of Special Alloys for Oil and Gas Development" co-sponsored by China Academy of Sciences and Southwest Petroleum University was held in Chengdu.

Qiu Hongzhuan, Deputy Director of the Materials Industry Division of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology, Zhang Longqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of the Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Institute, Song Quanming, China Chief Representative of the International Nickel Institute, Chen Yong, Vice Dean of the Pangang Group Research Institute, Southwest Leaders and experts from Wang Ping, deputy dean of the School of New Energy and Materials, University of Petroleum, attended the meeting. More than 130 experts, scholars and representatives from more than 80 units such as Baosteel, Xinxing Cast Pipe, Anshan Iron and Steel, Shougang, Tianjin Pipe, Taiyuan Iron and Steel, Shagang, Qingtuo, Jiuli, etc. participated in the forum. The meeting was chaired by Fu Jing, Assistant Dean of the Institute of Information Standards for the Metallurgical Industry and President of the World Metal Herald, Li Xianzi, Chief Assistant of the Beijing Office of the International Nickel Institute, and Wang Qinying, Assistant Dean and Associate Professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Southwest Petroleum University.

Song Quanming mentioned in his speech that in the field of petroleum and natural gas, special stainless steel nickel alloy is a very important and key material with a wide range of applications. However, in the fields of corrosion-resistant alloys and special stainless steels, there is still a certain gap between us and developed countries in terms of technology application, material development, and processing and production. China still has a lot of room for development. In the field of special alloy stainless steel, China is a big manufacturing country, but it is not yet a strong manufacturing country. China produces and consumes 60% of the world’s stainless steel. However, in the field of oil and gas, China still needs to rely on foreign materials for many of its supplies, and material development cannot reach advanced levels. Level, unable to meet production requirements. He mentioned that to develop more new materials, we must focus on independent innovation, in-depth communication and exchanges through industry, university and research, and improvement and development in the fields of processing, production and application technology. As an international non-profit industry organization, the International Nickel Institute will continue to support the development of the industry and promote the global development of materials in multiple fields through technology and application methods. He expressed that he hopes to use this conference to strengthen industry exchanges and cooperation, work together to promote the development and application of special alloy technologies in China's oil and gas field.

In his speech, Chen Yong mentioned that oil and natural gas will still be the main force of energy in the next few decades. However, with the increasingly demanding conditions for oil and natural gas development, it is necessary to develop high-performance special alloy materials to meet demand. Carrying out research on the application technology of special alloys for oil and gas development is conducive to promoting the development of oil and gas resources, realizing the combination of production, teaching and research applications of key materials, and promoting the technological progress of special alloys and key equipment for oil and gas and the sustainable and healthy development of the industry. Focusing on high-end technical materials of corrosion-resistant alloys and special stainless steels, PGJT Alloy Materials Research Institute aims at industrialization and engineering, and has established an innovation system led by market research, product design, process research, equipment development, product application, and standard establishment , Adhere to the development concept of open innovation and win-win cooperation, carry out extensive academic exchanges and project cooperation with scientific research institutes and downstream industries, and have achieved breakthroughs in key technologies for the industrialization of key products such as high-end corrosion-resistant alloys and special stainless steels. Alloys have been widely used in the petrochemical industry. He hopes that everyone will take this seminar as an opportunity to carry out extensive exchanges and in-depth cooperation, focus on solving the bottleneck problems of related science and technology and engineering application of special alloys for oil and gas, and strive to promote the high-quality development of special alloys for oil and gas development.

At the meeting, Gary Coates, senior technical consultant of the International Nickel Institute, shared a report titled "The Application of Stainless Steel Nickel Alloy in Oil and Gas Development" in the form of video. In the report, he introduced the origin of the NACE MRO175/ISO15156 standard, which mainly discussed various cracking problems caused by hydrogen sulfide. He mentioned that many potential types of hydrogen sulfide cracking, most of which will corrode carbon steel, but will not affect corrosion-resistant alloys. The standard takes into account the chloride stress corrosion cracking problem that is prone to occur on some austenitic stainless steels, but It does not really say when this cracking will occur. The standard does not cover general and local corrosion problems, such as pitting or crevice corrosion. Gary Coates focused on the higher strength alloy CRA (corrosion resistant alloy), namely austenitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and nickel alloy. He mentioned that the wrong use of materials will penetrate the wall of the pipe or container and cause leakage, which will cause significant economic losses, there is a risk of fire and explosion, personal safety issues, and serious damage to the environment. He pointed out that alloys with different corrosion resistance are used to deal with different situations where hydrogen sulfide and chloride exist, including some extreme high temperature situations. The development of higher strength alloys is for the corrosion resistance of different environments. Many new high-alloy stainless steels and nickel-based alloys are under development and have been qualified for use in the harshest oil and gas environments.

At the conference, Zhang Longqiang made a report entitled "Status and Trend Analysis of Steel Use in Oil and Gas Field". He pointed out that oil, coal, and natural gas will still be the main types of energy consumption in the future, but the consumption structure is undergoing major changes. In the future, the world is transitioning to a low-carbon energy system. Countries are developing a combination of carbon capture, use and storage. Development of zero-carbon energy. my country is a big oil and natural gas consumer, but reserves do not have an advantage in international competition. In recent years, with the development of mining equipment and technology, output has continued to hit new highs, but demand has grown faster, and the output/consumption ratio has been declining. High degree of external dependence. In the future, the oil and gas industry will still have a lot of room for development, and the demand for energy steel will also have more and higher requirements. In the analysis of the main steel use in the oil and gas field, he mentioned that China's oil and gas have a high degree of foreign dependence. In order to ensure energy security and deal with the increasingly complex international environment, the state has issued a series of policies and management measures in recent years to strengthen oil and gas exploration Strengthen the pipeline transportation capacity and storage capacity, which will greatly promote the development of steel in the oil and gas field. Finally, in response to steel development suggestions in the oil and gas field, he emphasized that enterprise development should actively plan, optimize industrial structure, position product direction, benchmark advanced standards, strive for first-class standards, and actively participate in the construction of standard systems for products, processes, and inspections to achieve Standards lead, green development. In addition, enterprises should actively carry out intelligent production, improve quality and efficiency, keep up with international development, increase publicity, and continuously enhance corporate brand influence and create brand value.
