The project of “SiC/SiC composite ATF fuel element key technology research” in the field of nuclear power in China launched

On September 15th, the fifth batch of nuclear energy development and scientific research project "SiC/SiC composite material ATF fuel element key technology research" led by Professor Li Xiaoqiang of Northwestern Polytechnical University was successfully held. Academician Zhang Litong, Professor Cheng Laifei, and Xia Haihong, deputy dean of the State Power Investment Corporation Institute of Science and Technology, were invited to attend the project steering group. Vice President Wang Zhen of the Institute of Science and Technology, Xue Chao project supervisor, and project leader of the project team And the research backbone to participate in the meeting.

At the meeting, the project leader, Professor Li Xiaoqiang, first introduced the background significance and research goals of the project. The project took the accident tolerant fuel (ATF) fuel element SiC/SiC composite cladding as the research object, and carried out material optimization design and packaging. The research on key technologies of the whole chain, including shell and tube preparation, performance evaluation, and irradiation assessment, laid the foundation for the subsequent engineering application of ATF fuel. The implementation of this project will consolidate the foundation for the preparation of SiC/SiC materials and pipe fittings, complete the conceptual design of my country's SiC/SiC ATF fuel element, the core design, and the preparation and assessment of pilot fuel rods, in order to realize the accident-resistant SiC/SiC/ The independent and localization of SiC fuel elements has laid a solid foundation.

Academician Zhang Litong said that the project team took the kick-off meeting rigorously, and the participating units worked together and made a good start. He hoped that a good scientific research style could be maintained during the implementation of the project, and that SiC/SiC composite materials could be studied well and SiC/ SiC composite materials are used well to serve the major strategic needs of the country's nuclear energy development.

Professor Cheng Laifei said that the preparations for the kick-off meeting are very formal and standardized. The participating units are well prepared and cooperate closely; the key laboratory of ultra-high temperature structure composite materials has excellent research conditions for SiC/SiC composite materials. As a specific support unit, Will strongly support project implementation and follow-up work.
