The U.S. launched [The U.S. Plastics Pact] supported by more than 60 signatories including Coca-Cola, Unilever, and Amco

According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (Ellen MacArthur Foundation), led by The Recycling Partnership and supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the United States officially launched its first project on August 25 Plastics Convention-"The US Plastics Pact" (The US Plastics Pact).

The Plastics Convention is committed to five major goals:

According to the report, to ensure that plastics no longer become a source of waste in the United States requires cooperation and innovation. The convention has won unanimous support from more than 60 signatories including Amco, Coca-Cola, Unilever, and APR, etc., companies, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, universities, trade institutions and investors. Work together to achieve a plastic circular economy. As the first "Plastics Convention" in North America, members work together to achieve the following goals:

By 2025, ensure that all plastic packaging will be 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable.

By 2021, make a list of plastic packaging that will be designated as problematic or unnecessary, and take measures to eliminate these packaging by 2025.

By 2025, take action to effectively recycle or compost 50% of plastic packaging.

By 2025, ensure that the average proportion of recyclable or responsible bio-based components in plastic packaging reaches 30%.

Public reports are issued annually on the progress of these goals.

Coca-Cola, Unilever, Amco, Walmart, etc. became members of the advisory committee

The progress of the "Plastics Convention" will be tracked through WWF's ReSource: Plastic Footprint Tracker tracking tool, which provides a standard method to track the plastic footprint of companies and publicly report their plastic waste commitments annually. Measurable changes and transparent reporting results in each target area will be the key results of the US Plastics Convention.

In order to maintain continuous and effective cooperation, the "American Plastics Convention" will set up an advisory committee composed of ten organizations, companies and governments to provide guidance. The members of the advisory committee include: Coca-Cola, Unilever, Amcor, Walmart, Mars, Target, AustinResource Recovery resource recycling company, American Internet environmental protection daily chemical brand GroveCollaborative, BalconesResources Inc. Resource company, EurekaRecycling recycling company, and Incorporated Wait.

The next step of the "American Plastics Convention" will be to develop a road map that outlines the steps to achieve the above goals.

Helping the sustainable development of the U.S. and global plastics industry

The "American Plastics Convention" further expands the global Plastics Pact organization of the Allen MacArthur Foundation. The U.S. Plastics Convention, the Plastics Convention of other countries (the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France, Chile, and Portugal) and the European Plastics Convention have incorporated the global Plastics Convention led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation "The internet.

Sander Defruyt, Head of the New Plastics Economy of the Allen MacArthur Foundation, made the following comments: “This is an important step for the U.S. to take a plastic circular economy. This effort will not only help the U.S. create solutions, but also help the world. We are looking forward to working with all relevant parties to promote real change, eliminate problematic and unnecessary plastic products, and innovate to ensure that all plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable, and recycled."

Erin Simon, head of the plastic waste business of the World Wildlife Fund, added: “Plastic pollution is a global crisis and requires solutions from all over the world. However, as one of the most influential countries in the United States, its launch of the Plastics Convention will Bringing revolutionary changes on a global scale. To this end, the World Wildlife Fund regards the "Plastics Convention" as the key to uniting important stakeholders, including industry experts, waste management systems, and policy makers, to work together Meaningful and measurable impact under the vision and action plan."

Sarah Dearman, Vice President of Circular Investments at The Recycling Partnership, said: “As the lead organization that promotes the entire supply chain to promote the circular economy in the United States, the Recycling Partnership is bound to establish further cooperation with other important players in the industry to promote sustainable development reforms and improve the planet. Environment. The U.S. Plastics Convention's efforts to promote packaging upgrades, improve recycling and reduce plastic waste will benefit the entire industry system and all materials."

The American Association for Recycling of Plastics (APR) has been certifying easy-to-recycle plastic packaging since 2009, and it is clear that the recyclability of plastic packaging and other plastic products can be measured from seven aspects of plastic products, including base resin, barrier layer/coating /Additives, colors, sizes and shapes, seals and dispensers, labels/inks/adhesives, accessories, APR has developed a full set of test programs to prove that the design of plastic products meets the needs of producing high-quality recycled materials. Plastic varieties cover PET , HDPE, PE film, PP, PVC, EPS, PS, PLA, etc. (Currently, it is continuously updated for new innovative packaging).

In November 2019, the China Plastics Sustainable Development Association (CSPA, formerly "China Waste Plastics Association") and APR signed a memorandum of cooperation to introduce APR's "Design Guidelines for Plastic Recyclability" into China, filling the domestic market in this field. blank.

The introduction of the "Plastic Recyclability Design Guidelines" series of standards has filled the domestic gap in the field of plastic recyclability design, clarified and improved the indicator system of recyclability in the evaluation of plastic product green design, and is conducive to the construction of plastic closed loops. It provides important technical support for China's response to plastic pollution.

In order to further promote the pace of plastic pollution control in China, the Plastic Recycling Branch of China Synthetic Resin Supply and Marketing Association (CPRRA), China Plastic Sustainability Association (CSPA), Shanghai Fuxin Certification Co., Ltd., Amila (Wuxi) Packaging Technology Co., Ltd. Co-sponsored by Beijing Guojia Foundation Information Consulting Co., Ltd., to sound the clarion call for the definition of "recyclability" for the entire plastic recycling industry, and jointly establish a standard system for the recyclability design of plastic products in China.
