On July 16, Toray, a Japanese material maker, announced that it will build a lithium battery separator factory in Europe for the core components of lithium-ion batteries for pure electric vehicles.
Toray will produce a special film called a diaphragm (insulating material). Inside the battery, the separator is located between the positive electrode and the negative electrode to prevent fire and is an important component that determines the safety and life of the battery.
This will be the first such plant in Europe with a total investment of 200 million Euros and is expected to be operational in July 2021.
Established in January 1926, Toray Co., Ltd. mainly manufactures, processes, and sells fibers and textiles, high-performance chemicals, carbon fiber composite materials, and more.
