TORAY successfully developed low-cost High Barrier Film

TORAY announced on its official website on April 25 that it has developed a "Super Barrier Film" that can greatly reduce production costs.

Toray has successfully developed this new barrier film by continuously improving its own film design technology and film forming technology. It is mainly used in various fields that require high barrier properties, such as flexible equipment, solar cell packaging, etc., and is planned to be commercialized in 2023.

This time, after Toray applied the high-density composite compound film design technology accumulated in the research and development of sputtering films to the high-speed evaporation technology (for the production of food-grade barrier films and other products), the vapor transmission rate of the produced barrier films was 10-3[g/m2day], no less than "sputtering method" and "CVD method". This super-barrier vapor-deposited film can be formed 100 times faster (or more) than conventional sputtering at 1/5 the cost.

Toray said that in the future, it will continue to make full use of core technologies such as "polymer chemistry", "organic synthetic chemistry", "bio-technology", "nano-technology", and continue to promote research and development of some products that can be thoroughly Innovative materials that change society to realize the Toray Group's corporate vision "We contribute to society by creating new value."
