Toshiba Corporation will build a new production facility in Yokohama to increase the production of SCiB lithium-ion batteries.
At present, TISS (Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions) manufactures supercharged ion batteries (SCiB) at the Kashiwazaki plant, and is committed to promoting the production of supercharged ion batteries at plants in Japan and overseas.
This super-charged ion battery has a long service life, fast charging speed, large input and output power, and large effective capacity. This type of battery has a wide applicable temperature range and high safety. Since the battery was introduced in 2008, its functionality and reliability have been applied to the driving systems of electric and hybrid vehicles, rail vehicles, and energy storage facilities in substations.
It is estimated that future demand for super-charged ion batteries will strengthen, and Toshiba decided to build a new battery factory at Toshiba's Yokohama Complex. The facility will also be used as a technology research and development center to position TISS well so that it can actively respond to the future expansion of the lithium-ion rechargeable battery market.
