Turkish Aerospace Industry Corporation (TAI) recently announced the construction of a 95,000-square-meter plant for the production of composite materials for aircraft structural components. The plant is said to be the fourth largest composites plant in the world.
The new “smart digital factory” will reportedly use automated systems and augmented reality applications to ensure accuracy and high productivity. Turkish Aerospace Industries said it will use thousands of sensors to monitor production processes and productivity in real time, and will use advanced processing, measurement and calibration systems to ensure accuracy. Allegedly, parts will be inspected using ultrasonic and X-ray non-destructive testing (NDT) systems to ensure quality.
Turkish Aerospace Industries said that engineering and R & D activities will be carried out concurrently with production, and the new plant will produce 2% of aerospace composite parts worldwide.
