Vedanta Resources, London Quarterly aluminum output hits record high

Vedanta Resources in London released its second-quarter and first-half production reports. The report showed that a total of 296,000 tons of aluminum were produced in the second quarter, a new high.

The Vedanta smelter continued to increase production capacity during the quarter, with a maximum annual output of 1.1 million tons during the trial run. The company said that the increase in production capacity had slowed down due to the disruption of the electrolytic cells of the two smelters. In addition, the company also acquired coal suppliers through government auctions for wholly-owned power plants, which can provide 6 million tons of coal annually.

In the quarter that just ended, Vedanta produced 296,000 tons of aluminum, a 27% year-on-year increase. The total output in the first half of the year was 541,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 17%.

Vedanta's Lanjigarh refinery produced 292,000 tonnes of alumina in the second quarter, an 8% increase from last year's 272,000 tonnes. Total production in the first half of this year was 567,000 tons, an increase of 5% compared to the same period last year.
