Vitesco Technologies uses electric drive technology to help Peugeot Citroen and Hyundai’s new production models

Vitesco Technologies (former Continental Powertrain Business Group) today announced the signing of an agreement with Peugeot Citroen Group and Hyundai Motor to provide the first highly integrated electric axle drive system for different production models of the two companies. This reflects Vitesco Technologies' position as a pioneer in powertrain electrification, providing customers with advanced customized solutions. At present, the new electric drive system has been put into production at Vitesco Technologies' Tianjin plant in China.

Vitesco Technologies CEO Andreas Wolf said, "I am pleased to announce that two leading car manufacturers have chosen to use Vitesco Technologies' innovative electric drive products to power their mass-produced models. For those who wish to take the lead in the field of electric vehicles Vitesco Technologies is undoubtedly the partner of choice for automotive manufacturers with its new integrated shaft drive system and extensive experience in electrification. "

Vitesco Technologies' new electric drive system was selected for the e-CMP modular electric platform used by Peugeot Citroen Group for compact pure electric vehicles such as Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa-e. Hyundai Motors has listed Vitesco Technologies as its supplier in China through its joint venture, Beijing Hyundai. Encino's compact SUV and Lafesta sedan will be equipped with Vitesco Technologies' electric drive system. In addition, many other car manufacturers have chosen to cooperate with Vitesco Technologies, which will provide drive systems for pure electric vehicles to be launched in the next year. This innovative electric axle drive system will also be the power source for Sion pure electric vehicles launched by German startup Sono Motors. Wolf added: "Our cutting-edge technology will make electric cars mainstream."

Long-term focus on powertrain electrification

Vitesco Technologies has been engaged in the research and development of electrification for more than ten years, and is an important partner of major automobile manufacturers. As early as 2006, the company started working on developing electric vehicle solutions. By 2011, the electric drive system was finally put on the market and was used by Renault Automotive in its Zoe, Fluence and Kangoo electric models. Today, Vitesco Technologies brings its innovative electric drive system to the market with its experience and deep expertise in electric drive systems.

Two power ratings and best-in-class power density, size and weight

With expertise in systems and electronics, Vitesco Technologies engineers have further improved the interaction between the various components of the system (motors, power electronics and gearboxes). These improvements make the drive system lighter, more compact and more economical: the new modules, which use liquid-cooled motors and power electronics, weigh less than 80 kg. It also features a new electronic parking lock with integrated transmission. Through intelligent combination and integration of the various components of the system, a large number of connectors and cables can also be removed, thereby further reducing costs.

Thomas Stierle, head of the Hybrid Electric Vehicle Division at Vitesco Technologies, said: "We can provide highly integrated electric shaft drive systems with different power levels from 100 to 150 kW." He also added: "The maximum output power of the high-performance version is 150 Kilowatts, with a maximum torque of 310 Nm, comparable to a traditional 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, and its power density, size and weight are all best-in-class. "

Focus on electrification and pure electric technology

Vitesco Technologies chose to produce a new electric shaft drive system in China because China is currently the world's largest and fastest-growing electric vehicle market and is close to corporate customers. This not only allows Vitesco Technologies to better serve customers, but also leverages the Tianjin plant's experience in electric drive technology. Highly automated production lines in the factory ensure high-quality mass production.

Vitesco Technologies is one of the few automotive system suppliers today capable of providing a complete electrification system independently. The company's products include 48-volt electrification technology and key components for applications ranging from hybrid to pure electric drive systems. "

Looking ahead, Andreas Wolf said, "We will invest more in electrification and pure electric technology, and put more internal resources into these two areas. This will greatly strengthen our existing level of electronics expertise."
