World’s Largest Monolithic Fiberglass Hull, Third New Ship Mine Sweeper Coming Soon

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense on April 30, the third new ship in the world's largest single-piece fiberglass hull for the "Vladimir Yemelyanov" 1270 project of the Russian Navy will be launched at St. Nevsky shipyard in St. Petersburg at the end of the second quarter of this year.

According to the Russian Naval Command, the 12700 minesweepers will be able to perform missions in the sea, effectively providing minesweeping support to naval surface ships and submarine forces, whether at the base exit or in designated areas, these ships have excellent airworthiness Sex and high saturation. These ships belong to a new generation of mine-clearance forces, designed to clear sea mines. The new ships of MIP can only be detected in sea waters and marine soils, and will not enter dangerous areas.

The ships were built at the Sredne-Nevsky shipyard using the latest Russian technology, which has no analogues in the world's shipbuilding industry. The vessel for this project has a unique, world's largest monolithic fiberglass hull, formed by vacuum infusion. The mass of this object is much lower than that of metal. This significantly increases its strength. Such a body is not afraid of corrosion, and the service life according to the operating specifications is virtually unlimited.

The standard displacement of the 12700 minesweeper is 620 tons, with a full-load displacement of 890 tons; 61 meters in length, 10.2 meters in width, and 2.68 meters in draft. The main engine is a 2500 horsepower diesel engine, two 315 kW diesel generators, and two 210 kW diesel generators. The maximum speed is 16.5 knots, with a range of 1600 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 10 knots; self-sustaining power for 10 days; a total of 45 crew members.

The ship's main equipment is the "Igla" mine hunting system, and an AK-630 6-tube 30-mm machine gun is used as self-defense firepower and to help eliminate mines. In addition to the traditional mine-clearing equipment, the 12700 mine-sweeping ship can also carry underwater unmanned aerial vehicles and surface unmanned aerial vehicles to perform mine-clearance and mine-hunting operations at long distances.
