Xi’an Dan Shechtm Nobel Prize New Materials Institute unveiled, which will focus on high-strength 3D printing magnesium alloys

On March 27, the Xi'an Dan Shechtm Nobel Prize Award for Advanced Materials Research Institute was unveiled in the high-tech zone. Zhong Hongjiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Hi-tech Zone, and Party Secretary of the Aerospace Base Party Working Committee. Dan Shechtman, a world-renowned materials scientist and 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, attended the ceremony and unveiled the ceremony. Deputy Mayor Xu Mingfei issued a business license for Xi'an Sheikh Manno Award for Advanced Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd. Li Xiaolian, President of Xi'an University of Technology, Li Zhijun, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, delivered a speech. Yang Hua, deputy director of the High-tech Zone Management Committee, presided over.

The Xi'an Dan Shechtm Award for Advanced Materials Research Institute is the first Nobel Prize research institute in the natural sciences in Shaanxi Province. The institute was jointly established by Dan Shechtman's team, Xu Chunjie's team of Xi'an University of Technology, and Founders Space. The institute will focus on the research and development and industrialization of new materials for rapid solidification, high-strength 3D printing magnesium alloys, and carry out basic research in applications such as biomedicine, automotive lightweight, and aerospace, and gradually realize industrialization. At the same time, the institute will give full play to the advantages of Shaanxi Province in the field of magnesium resources, assist Xi'an in the rapid development of magnesium alloy deep processing and industrial application, and provide strong intellectual support for the development of hard science and technology innovation in Xi'an.

Dan Shechtm said that China's current magnesium production has reached more than 50% of the world's magnesium production, and Shaanxi's magnesium production accounts for about 70% of China's magnesium production. He and his team will continue to innovate and break through technical bottlenecks. While taking into account high-level theoretical research, based on industrialization research, he will contribute to promoting Shaanxi Province and Xi'an in the field of magnesium alloy technology research in China and the world.
