48K carbon fiber used to manufacture the world’s longest onshore wind turbine blades Hay:D01SHSH

On April 18, 2024, the 48K large fiber bundle carbon fiber wind power special material was applied by Sany Heavy Energy in the production of wind turbine blades, and the first batch of 131 meters of the world’s longest onshore wind turbine blades were successfully taken offline.

The wind turbine blade has a total length of 131 meters
This onshore wind turbine blade has excellent mechanical properties, highlighting the significant advantages of large fiber bundle carbon fiber wind turbine special materials in solving the weight reduction and performance improvement of large-scale wind turbine blades, with broad application prospects. The blades use a full carbon extrusion main beam and are equipped with advanced trailing edge auxiliary beams and small web design. By optimizing the combination of single and double web plates in the main beam area, the rigidity and stability of the ultra long blades are effectively improved.

To manufacture large-scale wind turbine blades, it is necessary to meet the mechanical performance requirements of blade lightweighting, high strength, and high rigidity. Traditional glass fiber materials reach their performance limit when the length of the blades exceeds 120 meters, while carbon fiber materials have successfully broken through this limit.

Carbon fiber material has successfully broken through the limit of traditional glass fiber material blade length not exceeding 120 meters

Carbon fiber is a new type of fiber material with a high strength and high modulus fiber content of over 90% carbon. Its specific gravity is less than 1/4 of that of steel, but its strength is 7 to 9 times that of steel. Due to its strong corrosion resistance and excellent mechanical properties.

In the industry, those with more than 48000 carbon fibers per bundle (referred to as 48K) are commonly referred to as large bundle carbon fibers. The 131 meter onshore wind turbine blade is manufactured using 48K large bundle carbon fiber wind power special materials.

In addition, the biggest advantage of 48K large tow carbon fiber is that under the same production conditions, it can not only improve the single line production capacity and quality performance of carbon fiber, but also achieve low-cost production, thereby breaking the application limitations caused by the high price of carbon fiber.
