After Daimler and Volkswagen, South Korean battery manufacturer SK Innovation (SKI) will supply batteries for Ferrari’s first mass-produced electric vehicle model

South Korean battery maker SK Innovation (SKI) will supply batteries for Ferrari's first mass-produced electric vehicle model. The company's client list continues to grow, including the Daimler Group and Volkswagen Group. In 2017, Daimler announced that SK Innovation would become its battery supplier. In November 2018, Volkswagen Group also announced that it has selected South Korean battery manufacturer SK Innovation (SKI) to supply batteries for electric vehicles based on its modular electric toolkit (MEB) platform.

According to industry sources, SK Innovation has been selected as the battery supplier for the SF90 Stradale model, which is Ferrari's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV). After more than two years of inspection and evaluation of products from multiple battery manufacturers, Ferrari chose SK Innovation.

The name of the model is to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Ferrari racing team Scuderia Ferrari. SK Innovation's battery for Ferrari will have a capacity of 7.9 kwh and an output of 162 kW (220 hp). Of the four driving modes, eDrive mode allows the vehicle to reach a mileage of 25 kilometers with the internal combustion engine turned off.

Industry observers said that SK Innovation can provide batteries to Ferrari, indicating that the company's batteries have reached Ferrari's high performance and high stability standards. Ferrari is one of the top three supercar brands in the world, running alongside Lamborghini in Italy and McLaren in the UK.
