American Energy Materials Corporation (EMC) and Corning Corporation have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop perovskite solar cells using Corning’s flexible Willow Glass flexible glass package

Photovoltaic packaging materials generally use ultra-white glass as the front substrate, mainly considering the glass's ultra-transparent, abrasion-resistant and as a framework support for battery components. TestPV learns that American Energy Materials Corporation (EMC) and Corning Corporation have signed a joint development agreement (JDA) to plan the development of flexible glass-encapsulated perovskite solar cells.

Under the agreement, EMC will use Corning's flexible Willow Glass as the printing substrate for EMC's proprietary (patent pending) printing process. These two technologies represent the industry-leading innovation capabilities of each company.

According to the technical information reviewed by TestPV, EMC's R2R (roll-to-roll) process can greatly improve the production efficiency of battery packaging, and Corning's flexible Willow glass has excellent thermomechanical stability, optical clarity, surface quality, and excellent Barrier properties.

According to Dr. Stephan DeLuca, CEO of EMC, solar panels require high efficiency and long life. Corning Willow Glass greatly expands the process window for high-performance perovskite solar cell modules using high-speed roll-to-roll printing methods, while providing Packaging barriers that extend product life.

According to Dr. Dipak Q. Chowdhury, Vice President of Corning Technology Center, "Willow Glass is a unique custom substrate for roll-to-roll printed perovskite photovoltaic modules. High-speed and high-performance photovoltaic cell manufacturing. "

If this cooperation is successful, the production efficiency of perovskite solar cells will be greatly improved, the manufacturing costs will be greatly reduced, and it will promote the industrialization of high-performance perovskite solar photovoltaic technology as soon as possible, and promote the commercialization of products as soon as possible to the field of new energy.
