ASICS and Xiborg Tokyo Paralympic Games jointly develop “SPIKESOLE” carbon fiber composite prosthetic product for track and field

ASICS, a large Japanese sportswear manufacturer, recently announced that it and Xiborg have jointly launched "SPIKESOLE", a prosthetic product for top athletes. SPIKESOLE is a spike shoe sole product for track and field, developed using the leaf spring of Xiborge Company.

Xiborg is a startup founded in 2014 by Kento Endo, a researcher at Sony Computer Science. The company aims to "make the Paralympic 100-meter champion run faster than the Olympic champion at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics", and design and develop prosthetics for top athletes. The athletic prosthesis has an S-shaped curved plate structure. The raw material of the leaf spring, carbon fiber reinforced plastic, was developed by Japan's Toray Corporation. Xiborg is the only manufacturer of carbon fiber composite prosthetics in Japan. Most of its products are customized and have been well received for the characteristics of athletes. They were used at the Rio Paralympic Games.

ASICS received an order from Xiborge last summer to start the design and development of the SPIKESOLE spike sole. In order to make the athlete accelerate from the first few steps after the start, the sole is designed to cushion the toe part with a certain slope. The pin is closely arranged on the inside of the forefoot to increase grip Ground force enables athletes to exert greater propulsion. The product is aimed at competitive sports including short distance running and long jump. Use the adhesive to fix the sole on the back of the leaf spring.

It is expected that this product will be used in domestic and international sports events in the future. ASICS will cooperate with athletes supporting Xiborg and conduct sports analysis in the ASICS Sports Engineering Laboratory to further optimize the use of results.
