Basanite Industries of the United States (hereinafter referred to as "Basanite") recently announced that it has signed an exclusive supplier agreement with MEP®Consulting Engineers. The company will become a provider of basalt fiber-reinforced polymers (" BFRP") exclusive supplier of ribs and other BFRP products.

Under the terms of the five-year agreement, MEP® will exclusively use Basanite to produce and supply BFRP rib products, including Basanite's BasaFlex™ and other proprietary products. Basanite will also exclusively manufacture HurricaneBar®, a BFRP bar product designed by MEP®, which is specifically designed and manufactured for structural purposes. In addition, during the agreement period, Basanite and MEP® will jointly design, develop and certify advanced solution-based BFRP products for the construction industry.

MEP® will use its architectural engineering expertise to design building structures, with a focus on the use of BasaFlex™, HurricaneBar® and other Basanite-made BFRP products, thereby encouraging the construction industry to use high-strength, environmentally friendly, and alternative reinforcement materials. MEP® will also use its sales and marketing expertise to distribute materials manufactured by Basanite to the global construction industry. In addition, Basanite is working on a large-scale factory capacity expansion in early 2021.
BasaFlex™ is an upgraded basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) bar, which is designed to eliminate the corrosion problems of typical steel bars, thereby adding intrinsic value to concrete structures. BasaFlex™ has a design life of 50 years, is non-corrosive, and only accounts for 25% of the weight of steel, but its strength and weight is 2.5 times higher than that of steel; it is transparent to magnetic fields, radar frequencies and other high electromagnetic fields; it is neither conductive nor conductive; and easy use.
