BASF and CoHaMa develop halogen-free flame-retardant Elastollan TPU safety straps for trains

January 14, 2021-CoHaMa Co., Ltd. recently launched BASF's Elastollan® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) train straps. Compared with traditional polyvinyl chloride (PVC) materials, Elastollan 1185A 10 HFFR halogen-free flame-retardant TPU can meet the industry standard flame retardant requirements of UL94V0 and the low smoke density and low toxin requirements specified in the European standard EN45545-2.

Peter Jang, General Manager of CoHaMa Group, said: “This is a successful attempt by BASF and CoHaMa to use halogen-free and flame-retardant TPU in the rail transit field. In the design, in order to ensure the safety and environmental performance of the product, the material’s flame retardancy and low Smoke density and durability have become key considerations."

In addition, given the flexibility and excellent resistance to long-term stress of Elastollan 1185A HFFR, this innovative material solution is also widely used in rail transit and aerospace.

Desmond Long, Global Vice President of BASF's Specialty Materials Transportation Division in Asia Pacific, said: "Our advanced halogen-free flame-retardant TPU technology has been widely used in wires and cables for automobiles and personal electronic equipment. With the success of this train pull strap With the release, we once again proved that as a full-field solution provider, we have the ability to provide the best material solutions and technical services for process and quality management. At the same time, this cooperation will further enhance our influence in the public transportation market. "
