BASF launches ultra-high viscosity PESU Ultrason® E to improve the durability of hollow fiber membranes and filters

– Polyethersulfone (PESU) has excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance

– Suitable for the production of hollow fiber membranes and flat sheet membranes used in the food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries

It is reported that BASF will launch ultra-high viscosity Ultrason® E in the Japanese market. Polyethersulfone (PESU) Ultrason® E 7020 P has an ultra-high molecular weight, while retaining the excellent mechanical properties of Ultrason® E series products. Therefore, the material is particularly suitable for the production of durable hollow fiber membranes and filters for food, beverage, electronics and pharmaceutical industries.

It not only shows excellent chemical resistance to chemicals such as acids and caustic soda, but also has high mechanical strength and can be used for a long time in harsh and high-pressure environments. Ultrason® E 7020 P is particularly resistant to superheated steam. Therefore, when cleaning membranes and filters, membranes and filters can withstand higher temperatures and more frequent cleaning. Even with repeated sterilization using superheated steam (134°C), ethylene oxide and gamma rays, the film with fine pore structure made of this material will not be damaged.

Ultrason® E is a high-purity material with low gel and oligomer content, which can ensure the stability of the membrane manufacturing process. BASF's polyethersulfone can be used in a larger pH range (0-13) without affecting its performance. The material complies with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European standards for reusable food contact materials, so it can be used in drinking water and food processing industries.

Ultrason® is the trademark of BASF's polyethersulfone (Ultrason® E), polysulfone (Ultrason® S) and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason® P) series of products. As a high-performance material, it can be used to produce lightweight components in electronics, automotive and aerospace applications, as well as to produce water filtration membranes and components in contact with hot water and food. Due to its excellent performance, Ultrason® products can replace thermoset plastics, metals and ceramics.
