BASF launches Ultrason® E0510 C2TR polyethersulfone (PESU), an engineering plastic with superior sliding friction properties, which can be used to manufacture automotive parts that require contact with hot oil

BASF introduced the new engineering plastic Ultrason® E0510 C2TR polyethersulfone (PESU). Its excellent friction resistance, oil resistance and dimensional stability, as well as a wide temperature range, are particularly suitable for the manufacture of automotive parts that require contact with hot oil. This injection-grade product contains 10% carbon fiber reinforcement and can be used in temperatures ranging from minus 30°C to 180°C. It has low viscosity, good fluidity, and is easy to process. At present, this new product has been launched worldwide.

Ultrason® E0510 C2TR can be used to manufacture various automotive parts that come into contact with oil, including oil pumps, oil control pistons, pressure valves, and high-speed components in automatic/manual transmissions. It can also be used in new driving power system applications. Due to its good flow properties, parts with a wall thickness of less than 1 mm can be injection molded, and its stability, durability and oil resistance are not affected. The thermal expansion coefficient of this material is as low as 10.4 [10-6/K], which can not only ensure the dimensional stability of the parts, but also withstand the rapid changes in temperature difference between cold and hot without any damage. ASTM G137 standard test shows that the sliding friction performance of this material is superior to other friction-optimized high-performance thermoplastics: even at high wear rates, the test parts show only a small amount of wear, while the mechanical stability and chemical resistance are almost maintained constant.

This new material has both tailor-made unique properties and the proven properties of the Ultrason® series: extraordinary chemical resistance, inherent flame retardancy, high rigidity and strength, and a wide operating temperature range Under the temperature stability and excellent hydrolysis resistance.

Ultrason® is the brand name of BASF's polyethersulfone (Ultrason® E), polysulfone (Ultrason® S) and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason® P) product lines. This high-performance material can be used to manufacture lightweight components in the fields of electronics, automobiles and aerospace, and can also be used to make water purification membranes and related parts that come into contact with hot water and food. The Ultrason® brand has excellent performance and can replace thermosetting materials, metals and ceramics.
