BigRep, a major German 3D printer manufacturer, and Bosch Rexroth have jointly developed two 3D printers using the new proprietary metering extrusion technology (MXT technology)-BigRep Pro and BigRepEdge.

Following the launch of the world's first pure 3D printed electric motorcycle, BigRep, a large German 3D printer manufacturer, has launched two 3D printers using the new proprietary metering extrusion technology (MXT technology)-BigRep Pro and BigRepEdge. The two new 3D printers were co-developed with Bosch Rexroth.

"The MXT technology system makes the printer's print extrusion speed 5 times faster, with higher printing accuracy and better quality. The innovation brought by the new technology meets the industry's long-standing expectations." Said BigRep CEO Stephan Beyer.

MXT metering extrusion technology

MXT technology can distinguish the process of wire feeding and melt-melting extrusion, which helps to comprehensively control the material extrusion volume and extrusion speed. It can also make better use of new materials developed by BASF and BigRep.

"With proprietary control system technology, the role of 3D printing in industrial manufacturing applications will become increasingly important," said Thomas Fechner, director of the new business unit at Bosch Rexroth.

"In terms of hardware, Bosch Rexroth's CNC control system can guarantee reliable performance, printing accuracy and durability. Through cooperation with BigRep, we will work together to advance the potential of 3D printing in future factory environments."

The two new systems also combine a CNC motion control system with an Internet of Things link.

BigRep Pro

BigRep Pro has a cubic meter of construction envelope and a large temperature-controlled spool chamber for continuous printing of high-performance materials. The 3D printer also includes an insulated enclosed metal frame to ensure optimal temperature control. In order to enhance the adhesion during printing, the heated print bed is also equipped with polyimide foil. There is also an integrated inductive sensor for semi-automatic leveling.

The BigRep Pro printer uses two MXT modular extrusion heads with a print speed greater than 600 mm per second. BigRep Pro's finest print nozzle diameter is only 0.6 mm, so printing speed is five times faster than other FFF printers on the market.

BigRep Edge

The print bed area of the BigRep Edge is 1500 x 800 x 600 mm. The printer is designed to process high-end performance materials for end-use parts, functional prototypes, and composite tools. Its heated construction room provides a controlled high-temperature environment up to 200 ° C indoors and a 220 ° C high-temperature environment in the print bed.

In addition, the BigRep Edge has an automatically moving door and an easy-to-use graphical interface for optimal adjustment of all print settings. BigRep Edge also has two MXT modular extrusion printheads with a minimum print nozzle diameter of 0.6mm, so its print speed is said to exceed 1,000 mm per second.

Both BigRep's new printers will be on display at Formnext in Germany.
