BorgWarner R2S® takes turbocharging to higher fuel efficiency levels

BorgWarner is a world-renowned leader in combustion technology, and this is once again confirmed-the company's innovative adjustable two-stage (R2S®) turbocharging system receives the latest 2.0-liter TwinPower turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine from the BMW Group This engine will be adopted by most new models in the future. The extraordinary combination of low-pressure variable geometry (VTG) turbocharger and high-pressure wastegate turbocharger is tailored to the specific needs of the automaker-most R2S applications use VTG technology for the high-pressure stage. The system is optimized to achieve the best combination of results—improving performance, reducing emissions, and increasing fuel economy. BorgWarner technology helps automakers meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations around the world, and especially helps European customers meet Euro 6d TEMP emissions standards.

"Our advanced R2S solutions can help automakers reduce emissions and improve fuel economy," said Joe Fadool, president and general manager of BorgWarner Turbo Systems. "We have been providing advanced technology products to the BMW Group for 20 years. We We are pleased to provide the R2S system to most of its models, which will further deepen the friendly cooperation between the two parties. "

State-of-the-art BorgWarner R2S technology combines a wastegate valve turbocharger and a VTG turbocharger in series into a compact overall package. This technology provides the supercharging capability required for optimal combustion performance, optimizing the air supply to the entire engine air path, thereby achieving the best fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. The electric actuator can precisely adjust the guide vanes of the turbocharger to control the intake angle and flow rate of the turbine air intake. Turbine cross-sectional area is continuously adjusted according to engine operating conditions to optimize power output. The technology also improves thermal performance and accelerates supercharging for outstanding instantaneous response and near-instant acceleration, which significantly increases driving pleasure.
