The Bridgestone Group (Bridgestone) recently announced that it will use its rich tire and material expertise to help the new 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic athlete villages introduce barrier-free public parking systems.

With its expertise in the field of tires and rubber for commercial buses, Bridgestone is working with a joint Japanese team to develop a new roadside stone step design to seamlessly interface bus doors with platforms. The new roadside stone steps design includes a specially designed slope, which can make the roadside stone steps more closely fit the tires to reduce the wear and vibration of the tire sidewall. By adjusting the position of the stone steps on the roadside, this system can be customized for most tires and vehicle sizes, further reducing the gap between the door and the stone steps on the roadside, and making it difficult for passengers with mobility, including: , Wheelchair users, and the elderly can get on and off safely and conveniently.

The new barrier-free public parking system was first launched in Okayama, Japan in June this year, and has been adopted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The Tokyo Olympic Village and Paralympic Village will be the first demonstration sites in Tokyo to set up the system, and will be completed in February 2020. This system installation includes nearly 395 meters of curbstone steps, which can be applied to most tires and vehicle sizes. Bridgestone will continue to cooperate with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and other regions to promote this technology to more applicable areas and continue to serve the public after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Masaaki Tsuya, Bridgestone's Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Executive Officer, said: "Since its establishment, Bridgestone has always been committed to contributing to society as a corporate mission and is committed to improving people's mobility, life, work and A way of entertainment. We have an excellent team of experts in the field of tire and rubber technology, dedicated to solving changing needs and challenges.
