Auto parts company Hyundai Mobis and Korean telecommunications company KT cooperated, and the two parties demonstrated a smart connected car communication technology based on 5G communication network research and development.
It is reported that the test enabled two autonomous vehicles. The front test vehicle will use cameras and radar to collect real-time driving data and transmit this information to the rear vehicles through the 5G network. Hyundai Mobis and KT demonstrated the real-time update of on-board maps, preventing rear-end collisions, and pedestrian recognition. The two parties will also establish a remote control system and monitor sensor data of autonomous vehicles in real time.
Hyundai Mobis and KT have also developed real-time upgradeable software for in-car navigation systems and cellular car associations (C-V2X). In December 2018, KT produced a prototype of an in-vehicle communication terminal that uses C-V2X technology to ensure that autonomous vehicles can avoid accidental collisions while driving. KT has provided support for communication between vehicle 5G terminals and 5G base stations. Hyundai Mobis has developed related technologies that can extract core information and send it to the server.
During the 2019 Automotive Engineering Society Annual Meeting, Auto House experienced C-V2X technology in Shanghai. Different from the 5G communication network launched by Hyundai Mobis, the C-V2X technology unveiled in Shanghai is based on the 4G communication network. The demonstration content includes speed limit warning, bridge ahead reminder, traffic signal prompt and other functions. It is worth mentioning that the vehicle terminal demonstrated this time is already compatible with 5G C-V2X technology. I believe that in the near future, we can see the application of C-V2X technology based on 5G communication network in the Chinese market.
