China develops world’s first carbon fiber composite subway train

The 3rd China International Composite Materials Industry Innovation Achievement Technology Exhibition (ICIE-3) opened at Zhuhai International Convention and Exhibition Center. The purpose of the exhibition is to promote technological innovation and achievement transformation of composite materials, and to build a sharing and cooperation platform for the industry to popularize scientific and technological knowledge, industry academic exchanges, product demonstrations, and scientific and technological knowledge. ICIE-3 has an exhibition area of ​​more than 15,000 square meters, dozens of scientific research institutes and key laboratories such as China Aviation Development and Aviation Materials Research Institute, CRRC Sifang, Sinoma Science and Technology and hundreds of other companies participated in the exhibition. The world's first carbon fiber subway vehicle, which debuted at the Berlin Rail Transit Exhibition in September 2018, will also be on stage at the exhibition.

Carbon fiber subway is more environmentally friendly

In recent years, with the improvement of performance, rail vehicles are experiencing a leap from the "steel age", "aluminum age" to "carbon material age". Due to the advantages of lightweight composites, carbon fiber, and other advanced composite materials, such as lightweight, impact reduction, and load lifting, it can meet the stringent requirements of ultra-lightweight, impact resistance, and durability of vehicles, which has rapidly increased the application scale and level of related products and technologies.

As the world's largest manufacturer of rail transportation equipment, CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. will showcase the world's first carbon fiber subway vehicle at the 3rd International Composites Industry Innovation Achievements Technology Exhibition (ICIE-3). The vehicle is a more environmentally friendly and superior urban public transport developed by CRRC Sifang in the "Next Generation Metro" project. The research and development relies on the National Science and Technology Support Plan "Development of Key Technologies and Equipment for Next-Generation Urban Rail Transit Trains", and carries out research and development of composite material driver cabs, equipment bays, car bodies and bogie frames. The vehicle was launched for the world at the Berlin Rail Transit Exhibition in September 2018 and won the Science and Technology Innovation Award of China International Industry Fair 2019.

Nanoscience "National Team" Attends the Exhibition

The nanocomposite team of the National Team of China's Nanoscience National Nanoscience Center will also be exhibited at the exhibition. The team focused on key scientific issues such as interface mechanics of nanocomposite materials, and cross-scale performance transfer of nano-effects. The research team has cooperated with companies such as State Grid, COMAC and Airbus to carry out a number of nanocomposite research and development projects. Among them, the anti-pollution flash nano-composite coating material has maintained super-hydrophobic performance for more than ten years under service conditions, realized industrial application, and obtained social and economic benefits. Currently, the team is actively participating in and advancing the construction of the National Nanotechnology Innovation Research Institute in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
