At present, only the United Kingdom and the United States have successful experience in designing and manufacturing titanium alloy wide-chord hollow fan blades. CJ-1000AX engine fan blades have the characteristics of high hollow rate, curved blade shape, and high fatigue performance requirements. On the basis of many years of basic research, the Aviation Industry Manufacturing Institute established a CJ-1000AX wide-chord hollow blade development team headed by Comrade Li Zhiqiang, the current dean, in 2011. The project team members are mainly young researchers born in the 1980s. Professional fields cover multidisciplinary directions such as structural mechanics, material science and engineering, mechanical processing, surface engineering, analysis and testing, and quality engineering.

Through a large number of concurrent engineering and joint design, the young project team broke through a series of key technologies such as hollow blade structure optimization design, high-cycle vibration fatigue performance, geometric accuracy control, surface integrity processing, etc., and it took less than two years to get through the hollow blade development The process has realized the important transformation of hollow blades from "likeness" to "likeness", and has embarked on an innovative road of independent research and development of key components of aero engines. In October 2017, through the unremitting efforts of all project team members, the first 18 installed blades of the CJ-1000AX verification machine were developed and delivered to the overall unit.

The realization of the complete assembly of CJ-1000AX titanium alloy wide-chord hollow fan blades is an important milestone for the blade manufacturing technology from the laboratory stage to the engineering application. It indicates that my country has the independent research and development capability of titanium alloy wide-chord hollow fan blades. The successful breakthrough of this technology has blazed a new path for the independent innovation and development of China's aviation engines, and provided strong support for the subsequent development of engines with large bypass ratios.
