China Supplier Releases Low Temperature High Strength Vessel/Storage Tank Steel for Carbon Dioxide Transport Ships Hay:A02AGJT

Recently, China High Performance Alloy Company announced:

AGJT's 690 megapascal grade low-temperature steel, which can be applied to the manufacturing of carbon dioxide liquid cargo tanks, has been launched globally, filling the international gap in the field of liquefied carbon dioxide storage materials. The related achievements will be applied to two of the world's first 7500 cubic meters of liquefied carbon dioxide transport ships.

Prior to this, there were no practical examples of low-temperature steel being used for liquefied carbon dioxide storage tanks at home and abroad.

It is reported that there is no practical example of low-temperature steel used in the manufacturing of carbon dioxide liquid cargo tanks at home and abroad. During the research and development process, AGJT solved six technical challenges, including carbon equivalent, yield strength ratio, and cracking resistance, for ultra-high strength and ultra-low temperature toughness steels. It also met the first international requirement for the minus 35 degree (CTOD) cracking resistance performance index.

The new steel grade launched globally can meet the safe and stable operation of liquid cargo tanks under high-pressure, low-temperature, and inertial loads, filling the international gap in the field of liquefied carbon dioxide storage materials and reaching an international leading level.

The technical requirements for the ultra-high strength low-temperature steel developed this time are extremely strict, mainly reflected in the following three points:

Firstly, the strength level reaches the highest level of 690MPa in the global shipbuilding and marine steel standards;

Secondly, the low-temperature toughness reaches the highest quality level of -60 degrees Celsius according to the global shipbuilding and marine steel standards;

Thirdly, the anti cracking performance (CTOD performance) reaches -35 degrees Celsius, far lower than the existing international standard of -10 degrees Celsius

The world's first 7500 cubic meter liquefied carbon dioxide transport ship will be applied to the European carbon dioxide capture and storage program, aiming to collect carbon dioxide generated by European industry and transport it to the west coast of Norway for treatment before injecting it into the seabed for permanent storage 2600 meters underground, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the European region.

In addition, the company also has

Non magnetic nickel chromium titanium alloy steel

TiC particle reinforced titanium alloyed wear-resistant steel

Crack arrest steel

High performance rare earth steel
