CHINAPLAS 2019: Ultra-thin film made from BASF Ultrason high-performance materials

● Ultrason® film maintains excellent electrical and mechanical properties in a temperature range of minus 40 ° C to 200 ° C

● BASF at CHINAPLAS 2019: China Import and Export Fair Complex (Guangzhou, China), booth number 11.2A41, date: May 21-24

Thanks to BASF's Ultrason® polyphenylsulfone material, films can now be made as thin as 5 microns while maintaining high performance and strength. At the Chinaplas 2019, BASF will showcase another new application of Ultrason, ultra-thin films, which can be used as protective films and electrical insulation for the automotive, electronics and electrical industries. The film was developed by Japanese film maker Okura Industries and has a thickness ranging from 15 to 5 microns.

Due to the amorphous nature of Ultrason, the transparent film made from this material can ensure stable electrical and mechanical properties in a temperature range of minus 40 ° C to 200 ° C. Other characteristics include chemical and hydrolysis resistance, inherent flame retardancy, high dimensional stability and easy metallization. Because of these characteristics, ultra-thin films can be used in automotive capacitors or other electronic components, diaphragms in speakers, or barcode labels in displays and harsh environments.

Kazuya Takata, Business Development Manager, BASF Ultrason Japan, said: "We are honored to work with our customer Okura Industries to expand Ultrason's application in the film industry. In particular, it is worth mentioning that films made from Ultrason materials can be as thin as 5 microns And maintain excellent mechanical properties and high quality. This successful cooperation also helps our customers to further expand high-value applications in new markets. "

At the Chinaplas, BASF will also showcase Ultrason's multiple applications in other industries, including aerospace, automotive, and home appliances.

Ultrason is the commercial name for the BASF polyethersulfone (Ultrason E), polysulfone (Ultrason S), and polyphenylsulfone (Ultrason P) product lines. This high-performance material can be used to make lightweight parts for the electronics, automotive, and aerospace industries, as well as water purification membranes and related parts that come into contact with hot water and food. The Ultrason brand has excellent performance and can replace thermoset materials, metals and ceramics.
