China’s high-performance fiber / carbon fiber technology level will lead the world around 2030

At the 2019 (eighth) International Carbon Fiber Industry Development (Shengze) Conference held on June 27, it was learned that after more than 10 years of introduction and digestion and independent research and development, China's carbon fiber and its composite materials industry has begun to take shape although it has never existed However, there is still a long way to go from market demand, and about 60%  is currently dependent on imports.

Carbon fiber industry development Li Zhong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the China Chemical Industry Information Center, said that China ’s carbon fiber and its composite materials industry chain is continuously accelerating, the initial construction of the industry-university-research system, and downstream applications are starting. The industry has successively exceeded the 1,000-ton industrialization of high-performance fibers such as T700, T800, and T1100, and more than 3 carbon fiber technology groups in China have successfully developed 48K large tow carbon fiber precursors and successfully achieved mass production with far-reaching carbonization effects. Surpassing expectations, all indicators exceeded the level of Japan's Toray T300 grade products, providing support for the widespread application of domestic carbon fiber in automotive, rail transportation, wind power blades and other fields.

According to Xu Jian, a researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a distinguished professor at Shenzhen University, China's carbon fiber development started in 1962, and after several generations of scientists' efforts, it gradually broke through a series of card neck technologies. At present, the theoretical capacity of 24 carbon fiber companies in China with engineering-capacity or above capacity totals over 23,810 tons, about 18% of the world's total. In 2017, the domestic carbon fiber production reached more than 7,000 tons (the data in 2018 roughly maintained the value), and the total demand during the same period reached 22,000 tons, about 60% of which depended on imports.

Li Zhong believes that compared with Japan and the United States, China's carbon fiber and composite materials are still in the catch-up stage, and key technologies and equipment are still subject to others. Upstream and downstream collaborative innovation is inadequate, and the situation that downstream composite material companies dare not to use it will not be significantly improved. This severely restricts the development of the domestic carbon fiber industry.

In recent years, China's large-scale investment in carbon fiber and composite materials in the fields of civil aviation and automobiles has not achieved the expected output and benefits, and enterprises are in trouble. The industrial maturity of large-scale applications of advanced composite materials in the fields of civil aviation, high-speed rail and automobiles and other transportation fields is very low. Most of the products are still in the laboratory and engineering verification stage, new markets have not yet formed, and the industry's maturity is in its infancy. We still need to continue to make breakthroughs in key technologies and various maturities.

Under the new generation carbon fiber system, enterprises should seriously consider how to reduce costs and increase carbon formation rate. He predicts that by 2020, with the advancement and key technologies of high-performance fiber and matrix material preparation, characterization and composite technology, China's high-performance fibers and their composite materials will be basically synchronized with the international advanced level to achieve high performance. , High efficiency, high stability. By 2030, in the field of high-performance fibers and composite materials, China will lead the world in the scientific foundation and technical level. To master carbon fiber technology in its own hands and become the "Huawei" in the industry, can we not be afraid of other countries. neck".
